VEX V5 Robotics Competition 2026-2027: Override
معلوم: S4
Welcome to the official VEX V5 Robotics Competition Question & Answer system, where all registered teams have the opportunity to ask for official rules interpretations and clarifications. This Q&A system is the only source for official V5RC rules clarifications, and the clarifications made here from the Game Design Committee (GDC) are considered as official and binding as the written Game Manual itself.
Please review the Q&A Usage Guidelines before posting. This system is only intended for specific V5RC game rules questions.

3278: Clarification on Robot Starting Position and Field Perimeter Plane relative to Toggles
<S4><S4>Could the GDC please clarify the legality of a robot's starting configuration regarding the field perimeter plane and the Toggles under Rules <SG1>, <SG5>, and <S4>? Because the Toggles are mounted directly on top of the 2-inch wide field perimeter wall, a mechanism designed to flip them may need to sit directly above the Toggle before the match begins.
- Is a robot permitted to start the match with a mechanism positioned directly over or on top of a Toggle (within the 2-inch thickness of the perimeter wall), provided there is no physical contact with the Toggle or the perimeter wall?
- Does a mechanism positioned vertically over the Toggle at the start of the match violate the 3D vertical plane boundary of the field perimeter under Rule <S4> ("Stay inside the Field")?

- Is a robot permitted to start the match with a mechanism positioned directly over or on top of a Toggle... provided there is no physical contact with the Toggle or the perimeter wall?
There are no rules prohibiting a Robot from extending over the Field Perimeter or over a Toggle prior to the start of the Match. <SG1.c> prohibits a Robot from contacting any Toggles prior to the start, but contact with the Field Perimeter is actually required by <SG1.f> in order to start the Match.
- Does a mechanism positioned vertically over the Toggle at the start of the match violate the 3D vertical plane boundary of the field perimeter under rule <S4>?
It's legal for a Robot mechanism to be positioned over (but not in contact with) the Toggle prior to the start of the Match. <S4> is not meant to penalize mechanisms that cross the Field Perimeter as a part of normal, expected gameplay. The rule never defines a vertical plane boundary that a Robot is prohibited from crossing. Rather, it applies to Robots that go completely outside the Field.
