Carrot Cup Qualifier at SDSU

This January, JACKS and South Dakota State University will be hosting our second Carrot Cup Qualifier!
Held in the SDSU Student Union, this event offers a fun opportunity for students to compete and develop their ability to innovate.

Registration Information

All participating teams must be registered with the VEX Robotics Competition on the VEXEvents website and have an official team number before registering for this event. Tournament fees must be paid before teams are allowed to compete. Complete registration and payment through the VEXEvents website. Teams that have not paid by the payment deadline will be moved to the waitlist until payment is received. If your team is unable to meet the payment deadline, please reach out as depending on the circumstances, late registration and payment may still be accommodated. V5RC teams may have their registration fee waived in exchange for a full day of volunteering for the VEXU competition the day following, with a parent or other eligible person volunteering as a judge or in another key volunteer role. This opportunity will only be offered for a maximum of 3 teams, on a first-come, first-served. If you are interested in this opportunity, contact the Event Partner and, when registering, select "pay later" at checkout. Additionally, we understand that budgets can vary. If cost may prevent your team from attending, please reach out to the Event Partner, we are happy to work with you to make participation possible.

 

Waiting List

If this event is full, please add your team to the waitlist. The event’s participating teams may go above the listed capacity under appropriate circumstances. Additionally, if your organization wishes to bring more than four teams, please add additional teams to the waitlist, and we will expand the maximum organizational limit if there are still open spots and the given organzation wouldn't exceed 25% of the event total teams.

 

Engineering Notebooks

We will be collecting digital engineering notebooks at this event for judging.
Physical notebooks will not be accepted for judged awards.

All notebooks will be due Wednesday, February 3rd at 11:59 PM.

Lunch and Concessions

Full concessions, including lunch options, will be offered at this event. 

 

Elimination Matches

 

Number of elimination alliances:

• 16–23 teams → 8 teams in finals

• 24–31 teams → 12 alliances in finals

• 32+ teams → 16 alliances in finals

 

Competition Preparation

All teams should come prepared for the competition. Here are a few steps every team should take to ensure readiness:

• Review all game information: VEX V5 Competition Overview

• Review the rules and inspection checklist about a week before the event to allow time for adjustments. Robots must use VEX V5 parts. Please self-inspect using the VEX V5 Inspection Checklist

• Check the official VEX Forums for rule updates and changes.

• Carefully read all event details posted on events.vex.com.

• Pack for the event the day before departure. Items to bring include:

  • Goggles/Safety Glasses

  • Spare parts & tools

  • Batteries and chargers

  • Power strip and extension cord

  • Laptop computer

  • Programming cable

  • Engineering notebook (required for judged awards)

  • Team banners/decorations

  • Giveaways (optional)

• Review Awards Offered at Competition Events for the tournament.

• Prepare for judge interviews by reviewing the Team Interview Rubric and checking which awards will be given.

• Prepare Engineering Notebooks for judging based on the Engineering Notebook Rubrics

• Prioritize safety—do not bring tools that could pose a risk in crowded pit areas. No grinding or actions that produce sparks without tournament director approval.

• Ensure that your V5 Brain firmware and programming software are fully updated before arrival.

 

Participation and Consent Form

A completed consent form for all participants must be uploaded to events.vex.com prior to the tournament. Team leaders must ensure that all team members attending have completed the online consent form. Global Robotics Consent Form
