JR JACKET ROBOTICS - Level Up VEX IQ Spooktacular - Elementary School Tournament

Jr Jacket Robotics Level Up VEX IQ Elementary School Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 2026.  Students this year will design robots for the Mix & Match Game, details can be found here: https://www.vexrobotics.com/iq/competition/viqc-current-game

This tournament is open to Elementary School students (Any Student born after May 1, 2014 (i.e., who will be 12 or younger at VEX Worlds 2027). Middle school teams should register for our middle school tournament instead

Skills Challenges will be available to all teams, with 3 Max Driver attempts and 3 Max Programming attempts per team.  

The top ten (10) teams from the qualification rounds will participate in the Finals.  These ten (10) teams will be automatically paired into 5 Alliances.  The top scoring alliance in Finals will earn the Teamwork Champion Award. 

Competition Preparation

This event is sure to be a fast-paced and exciting event. To help all teams prepare, here are a few tips for each team:

1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. The inspection checklist can be found here:

2. Check the official Game Manual for rule updates and changes here:

4. Carefully read all of the information contained in this tournament posting all updates will be posted here

5. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.

  • Spare parts & tools
  • Batteries and chargers
  • Programming cable
  • Power strip
  • Laptop computer
  • Engineering notebook.

6. Read through the Awards Appendix, there have been some small changes to the awards process.

7. Prep for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.

8. Remember that safety comes first; please don't bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team, or others nearby as the venue is a very tight fit. 

9. Read through the Robot troubleshooting guide. The guide can be found here:

9:00am - All teams need to be check in. Match List will be ran at 9:00am and will be FINAL.
9:30am - Skills Challenge Opens
10:00am - Judging begins
11:30am - Skills challenge Closes
11:45am - Event Meeting
12:00pm - 4:30 pm Qualification matches
4:45pm - 5:00 pm Final alliance matches
5:00pm - Presentation of awards, closing

Be a part of the excitement by joining a team of volunteers who help in a variety of ways to make this event a success for the students involved.

Experience level:
No previous experience is needed for most volunteer positions, and you can even bring your kids for a family activity (for example, Field Re-setter is an ideal position for young children).

Time Commitment:
You can register for the entire event or just a portion of the day as your schedule permits for most positions.

Meals:
Lunch is included for volunteers.

In case of bad weather conditions or possible cancellations please visit the event on events.vex.com where we will post updates about the event status as needed. If the event is cancelled or postponed, then the title of the event will be changed to "Cancelled or postponed" in events.vex.com."If any questions arise please contact Matt Koletzke at 712-310-2717 the day of the event.

If the Event Partner or weather cancels the event: A refund will be granted.
If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend: A refund will be available until one week (7 days) before the tournament. After that, no refunds will be granted

We ask that participants contact Troy Arthur for refund requests.  Refunds can take up to 2 - 3 weeks to process following the event.

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
