3159: Interaction Between Alliance-Assisted Recovery of a Tipped Robot and Defensive Play

<GG14> <GG15> <GG17>

Override permits Robots to expand vertically 50", which may result in more tipped or incapacitated Robots than in some previous games. Consider the following scenario:

Blue1 Robot tips over on its own and becomes unable to continue normal gameplay. Its Alliance partner Blue2 attempts to right or otherwise assist the tipped Robot so that it can resume participation in the match. Red 1, an opposing Robot, repeatedly interferes with Blue 2 assisting Blue 1's recovery attempts. The interaction does not involve damage, Entanglement, or a violation of holding 3 count holding rule.

Given Rule <GG14> ("Don't destroy other Robots. But, be prepared to encounter defense."), Rule <GG14a> ("V5RC Override is intended to be an Offensive game..."), Rule <GG15> ("Offensive Robots get the benefit of the doubt when judgment calls are required."), Rule <GG17> ("No Holding for more than a 3-count"), and the Game Design Philosophy section emphasizing teamwork and offensive gameplay, does the Game Design Committee consider preventing an Alliance from restoring a tipped partner to be normal Defensive play? Or is there is there any point at which an opposing Robot whose primary objective is preventing the recovery of a tipped Robot would be viewed differently than normal defensive play?

If alliance-assisted recovery is an intended gameplay strategy, should a Robot actively attempting to restore an Alliance partner to functionality be considered an Offensive Robot for purposes of applying Rule GG15?

Thank you for your consideration. I have included an example of this occurring in PushBack.
