Welcome to the 2026 VEX V5 Robotics South Florida Middle School Event Region Championship!

Congratulations to all the teams that have qualified! We are thrilled to host this year’s Event Region Championship at South Dade Senior High School. We hope Homestead, Florida gives you a warm welcome for an exciting Saturday filled with high-energy VEX V5 Robotics Competition matches.

Note: This event will take place on Saturday March 14, 2026.

 

Invitation & Registration

Invitations will be sent via email through RobotEvents.

  • Please register within 16 days of receiving your invitation—after that, the invite will expire.

Important – Field Control & Firmware

To ensure smooth matches:

  • Update all VEX V5 brains to the latest firmware.

  • Upload your team number to each brain.

  • The match fields will be run using the Smart Field Control system.
    Teams will be asked to confirm these updates during inspection.

Logistics

  • Parking: Located behind the Gym (highlighted in yellow on the map).

  • Venue Entrance: Highlighted in red on the map.
     

Judging

  • Engineering Notebooks: Submit remotely before the deadline on 3/6 by 11:59pm.

  • Team Interviews: Conducted in person during the event.

 

Participant Release Form

All participants must complete the participant release form. (also available in Spanish) This is required once per season and covers all events.

Code of Conduct

The REC Foundation considers the positive, respectful, and ethical conduct of teams to be an essential component of the competition. Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

For more details, please refer to the REC Foundation Code of Conduct and Student-Centered Policy. If you have concerns about compliance with the Code of Conduct, please speak to the Event Partner during the event.

7:30 am to 9:00 am – Team Check-in & Inspection

9:00 am – Drivers Meetings, Inspection/Check-in Closes

9:00 am - 10:00 am – Skills on all fields

10:00 am to 12:00 pm – Qualification Matches

12 pm to 1 pm  – Lunch Break

1:00 pm to 3:45 pm – Qualification Matches

3:55 pm to 4:20 pm – Alliance Selection

4:30 pm to 5:30 pm - Elimination Matches

5:30 pm - Awards Ceremony

The event wraps up by 6:00pm.

There will be two dedicated skills fields that will be open all day once the drivers meeting has been completed. Once a team has checked in and passed inspection they will able to complete their skills runs. There will be skills runs on all fields from 9 AM to 10 AM, then qualification will begin. The skills fields will close once qualification matches have ended. We highly encourage teams to plan to complete skills matches early on, as lines can get busy.

This event is not possible without Volunteers. 

Volunteers will be provided with online training and will have dedicated team leaders. Volunteers will be provided catering, an event shirt and a Fast Pass (to use on the Skills Field ) 

Volunteer roles include: 

Field Resetters - reset the fields after play

Queuing Team - maintain the match schedule by coralling teams as they line up in the clearly marked waiting bays.

Score Keepers - data input using tables provided by VEX. Tablets use an image based platform to input the scores. All scorekeepers will have the support of a certified Head Ref

Judges - required from March 3rd to the 12th to remotely access engineering notebooks via their own personal devices from the comfort of their own homes and mark engineering notebooks using a standard, publicly available rubric. On site from March 14th &15th 2026, Judges will be needed to conduct interviews with teams using a standard, publicly available rubric.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

The event is held indoors and unless there's severe inclement weather - like a hurricane - the event will continue as planned. In the event of a severe weather event, the tournament will be canceled.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event:  If inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances arise, the event may be canceled and teams will be refunded in full minus the $5 for RECF.

 

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend: After the payement deadline has ended, March 6, 2026 @12pm (noon), no refunds will be issued for any withdrawn teams or teams that do not show the day of the event. Any teams registered who have not paid by this date risk being moved to the wait list.  Any team that qualifies after the Feb. 27th registration deadline will need to register and pay within 2 weeks or before the 3/6/2026 if their invite comes off the skills list.

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews will be judged in-person the day of the event and Engineering Notebooks will be online. Teams must submit an electronic copy of their digital notebook by Friday, March 6 by 11:59 p.m. Upload the link on robotevents.com. Under "My Account" click on the Digital Engineering Notebook icon of your state finals participating team. Make sure the link is giving only "Viewing" rights of the file. Preferred format of the file: PDF. Digital notebook is the format used at Worlds, hence teams must submit a electronic/digital copy of their engeneering notebook.

Physical copies of notebooks will not be considered or accepted.

  •  Digital Engineering Notebook Submissions / In Person Team Interviews: Team interviews will be conducted in-person at the event. Engineering notebooks will be submitted digitally for evaluation  via a link found within the "My Account" panel of the team contact on RobotEvents. Submission deadline: Friday, March 6 by 11:59 p.m.
