Congratulations to your team for earning a spot at the 2026 Southern California VIQRC Elementary School Championship Hosted By Magikid EmpowerTech Foundation @ Magnolia Science Academy Santa Ana.
This is your opportunity to compete, showcase your skills, and celebrate the power of student-driven innovation. The event will also be live-streamed online, so families and friends worldwide can share in the excitement.
Student-Centered, Fair & Inspiring
This championship will be strictly Student-Centered:
Students must do all the designing, coding, building, and competing.
Adults are not permitted to guide or coach during matches.
Our judges and referees are experienced REC Foundation officials, supported by a passionate team of university volunteers, ensuring fairness, professionalism, and a world-class experience.
Payment & Registration
Deadline: Teams that have not completed payment by Saturday, March 6, 2026 will be moved to the waitlist.
Payment eligibility will be verified through records on RobotEvents.com.
It is the team’s responsibility to ensure payment is processed on time.

Please ensure your primary coach contact information is current so you don’t miss important announcements.
For fairness and safety, teams may NOT bring their own practice fields. Official practice areas will be available at the venue for all participants to use.
Food Policy
Food and drinks WILL be allowed on-site outside of the main gym area. There will be concessions sold on location and pizzas are available to purchase. Also there are several food options within a 2-mile radius, so please plan accordingly for your team.

Judging
All initial judging will be done Remotely. Digital Engineering Notebooks and Remote Judging Sign-Up Forms will be due by:
- Monday, March 2, 2026, 5:00 PM for teams that qualify at an event by Sunday, February 22, 2026
- Friday, March 6, 2026, 5:00 PM for teams that are invited to fill open spots after Sunday, February 22, 2026
Team interviews will be scheduled in the order that sign-up forms are received. Details will be in the Remote Judging tab on the event webpage and in event update emails.

Volunteer to be a Remote Judge
- Coaches, mentors, and other adults are invited to volunteer as Remote Judges for events that their affiliated teams are not attending. Additional volunteer Information is available on the Remote Judge Sign-Up Form:

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy
In the case of bad weather conditions or possible cancellations, please visit the event on Robotevents.com where updates about the event status will be posted as needed. Event Partners will also make every effort to reach teams directly in case of an emergency. Make sure your team contact information is up to date in your robotevents.com account, as this is the information that will be used to contact your team. Teams should make sure their contact information in Robotevents.com includes both school and non-school phone numbers.
Refund and Payment Policies
If the Event Partner cancels the event:
Full refunds minus the $5.00 processing fee will be provided if the event is cancelled.
If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:
Full refunds minus the $5.00 processing fee may be provided at the discretion of the Event Partner.
Teams will be moved to the wait list if they have not completed the payment by February 15, 2026. It is your responsibility to ensure that the payment has been processed in time. We will use the visible record of payment on robotevents.com to make the determination.

Remote Judging: Initial Team Interviews will be conducted remotely, and Engineering Notebooks will be submitted to judges electronically.

Remote Judging Details:
-
Each team must submit a Remote Judging Sign-Up Form by the Remote Judging Deadline to be scheduled for a Remote Judging Team Interview.
- The Sign-Up Form includes coach and alternate contact information.
- The Sign-Up Form includes a link for a Team Photo preferably including students, coaches, mentors, and your robot with license plate visible.
- The Sign-Up Form includes the team’s schedule preferences for Remote Judging Interviews.
- Team Interviews will be scheduled in the order that Sign-Up Forms are received.
- Forms submitted later replace forms submitted earlier.
- Each team must submit a Link for their Digital Engineering Notebook by the Remote Judging Deadline to be eligible for all judged awards except Judges Award and Sportsmanship Award.
- Your team probably already did this when your team attended a previous tournament.
- Notebooks must be Fully Developed for teams to be eligible for the Excellence, Design, or Innovate Awards.
- Coaches should not be judges on a day when they plan to accompany their team for a scheduled team interview.
- Teams that created hardcopy Engineering Notebooks can convert them to Digital Engineering Notebooks. For example:
- Scan each page and submit them as a PDF (preferred).
- Photograph each page and submit them as a Photo Gallery.
- All Remote Judging Interview participants (students and one adult) must submit the online Participant Release Form by the Remote Judging Deadline.
- Your team members should have already done this if your team attended any previous events.
- Any team member who does not have a Participant Release Form on file might not be allowed to participate in a Remote Judging Team Interview.
- If the adult team member does not have a Participant Release Form on file, the team might not be allowed to participate in a Remote Judging Team Interview.
- The Remote Judging Interview Schedule will be posted shortly after the initial Remote Judging Deadline and updated daily.

- Teams will be notified by email when the schedule is posted.
- Remote Judging Team Interviews will be conducted using Zoom Breakout Rooms.

- Team members can log into Zoom from a single device or from multiple devices: computers, tablets, or smartphones.
- If using multiple devices in the same room, headphones are recommended to avoid echoes and feedback.
- If many team members are sharing a camera, a smartphone can be used as a microphone.
- Only team members with working video and sound will be allowed to enter Judging Breakout Rooms.
- Team members will not be allowed to Chat or Share Screens during Remote Judging Team Interviews.
- Team Interviews will be limited to 12 minutes.
- Team Interviews will follow a script based on the Team Interview Rubric.
- Judges may ask follow-up questions for clarification or to verify that the students did the work
- Teams may show judges their robot construction and/or the most creative features of their robot.
- The Engineering Notebook Rubric and Team Interview Rubric are in Judging Documents with the Guide to Judging and Judging Resources.

Venue Map

The Student Work Area (pits, practice fields, and Skills area) is restricted to students and one adult team member per team. The adult must wear the team lanyard, which will be provided (one per team), to enter this area.
