Situation : two cubes are scored in the inner protected zone scoring area . they are roughly 3.5 inches apart. a third cube is placed so that it is resting on both of the other cubes but is rotated 45 degrees to the vertical and therefore is deemed to be resting on the 'chamfered edges' of the other cubes.

Before telling me that this is already answered in the rules and in a previous Q&A from 5 months ago - please let me make say a little more......

The top surface of the cube is clearly defined on page 12 of the rules. It is clear that this is the plane parallel to the floor - as such, this plane has an edge. I believe that this edge is the intersection of the top surface and the beveled surface (also a plane) defined as the 'chamfered edge' . Therefore contacting this edge (of the chamfered edge) means with great certainty, you are contacting the top surface as well. I believe this is simple geometry.

Additionally, I would suggest that this intersecting edge (where the top surface intersects the 'chamfered edge' ) is slightly higher than the top surface of the cube. And if you stack two cubes on top of each other so that they are perfectly aligned, in many cases, they are in fact ONLY contacting each other along this outside edge and there is a small gap between the top surface of one cube and the bottom surface of the cube directly above it.

Perhaps the 'chamfered edge' needs to be redefined as the 'chamfered surface' and the edge where this intersection occurs needs its own definition.

For edge case scenarios such as the one in the attached photo, we would recommend using the "paper test" method described in the referenced Q&A. In the original Q&A, the paper would not have reached the chamfered edge/surface. In the photo you have attached, it likely would; therefore, it would be deemed that the purple Cube is not contacting the green Cube's Top Surface, and would not be considered Scored.

While we appreciate your suggestion, we will not be re-defining the Top Surface / definition of Scored, but will be sure to take this feedback into consideration for any future games that may utilize similar Scoring conditions.
