533: Using different two (or more) types of plastic on one robot <R9>

Peter Erbland (Event Partner)
3-Feb-2020

Is it permissible to use two (or more) pieces of different types of plastic as long as the total area of all plastic used does not exceed 12"x24"?

Rule <R9> says "as cut from a single 12” x 24 sheet," which implies it is not allowed: <R9> A limited amount of custom plastic is allowed. Robots may use non-shattering plastic from the following list; polycarbonate (Lexan), acetel monopolymer (Delrin), acetal copolymer (Acetron GP), POM (acetal), ABS, PEEK, PET, HDPE, LDPE, Nylon (all grades), Polypropylene, FEP; as cut from a single 12” x 24” sheet up to 0.070” thick.

However, in November 2015 (Nothing But Net) Karthik said that it was allowable. https://www.vexforum.com/t/answered-multiple-plastics/30904 Since previous rulings do not carry over year to year, could I please have a ruling on whether this is allowed.

Thank you.
