2294: SC4 - Switch cleared by ball, but ball fails to go into the goal - Disqualification
This has come up in a discussion with other local coaches.
If a ball is launched and the ball causes the switch to be cleared, but the ball itself doesn't go into the goal, is this a disqualifying event? Would it disqualify the team for the match if it happens twice or more times?
Again, the robot is not touching the switch. The ball is launched, hits the switch, the switch clears, but the ball doesn't go into the goal: Is this a violation and would it result in a disqualification?
Thank you!
As described in the blue box for rule <SC4>, which was revised in the October 8 game manual update:
Sometimes a Switch gets Cleared without scoring a Ball through the Target, or a Ball is Scored through a Target but the Switch is not Cleared. That’s okay. Switches must be Cleared as part of normal gameplay, and by Balls, not Robots or humans. Beyond that, there are no restrictions on what type of Robot action, mechanism, strategy, or technique is used to Score Balls and Clear Switches.
The scenarios you describe do not violate any rules, and the Switches should be recorded as Cleared if they remain Cleared at the end of the Match.
