2883: Starting pin knocked off during autonomous robot reset

Cory Robinson
28-Oct-2025

<RSC5>

A team's autonomous program stopped with the robot in contact with a starting pin. When the robot was moved to return it to the starting position, the starting pin fell off of the starting pin support. Since as head referee I determined this to be an accident, I put the starting pin back on the support. Was this the right thing to do in this situation?

Hi, Cory, and thanks for your question!

As described in the blue box in rule <T1>, whatever you decided in that moment was, by definition, the correct call. That said, we can give some official guidance to other Head Referees who find themselves in the same situation.

Teams should try to avoid affecting Scoring Objects during Robot resets under rules <RSC5> and <GG10>. If a Pin is accidentally knocked off of a Starting Pin Support during a reset, the Head Referee should return to that Pin to that Starting Pin Support.
