Official Q&A: VEX IQ Robotics Competition 2025-2026: Mix & Match
2972: If final alliance got DQed before the first final match starts, will it be re-pairing or DQ both?
Q: From GG6(a), "In Final Matches, Disqualifications apply to the whole Alliance, not just one Team. An Alliance that receives a Disqualification in a Finals Match will receive zero (0) points."
The confusion on this is how to define "In the final matches". Does it mean final matches already start and violation happens during the match?
If our finals' alliance got DQed after all the qualification matches are done and before the first final match starts, will it be a re-pairing of final alliance or DQed both teams together in the finals?
In most cases, and for most rules, Violations will occur during a Match and any penalty is applied to that Match. In some circumstances, including CoC-related Violations in which investigations and outcomes may not coincide with the Match schedule, later Matches may be affected.
At any Qualifying event (official events that qualify Teams to higher levels of competition in the current season), once Alliances have been formed and published by the Event Partner, clause A of rule <GG6> applies in all cases in which one Team in an Alliance is Disqualified. That Disqualification applies to the entire Alliance, and both Teams receive a score of 0 for that Match.
Some non-Qualifying events, including the VEX Robotics World Championship, choose to apply a modified version of this rule and manually reconfigure the Finals Matches to allow re-pairing of Alliances or provide the next Team not yet in an Alliance as a substitute for the Disqualified Team. Because these events are not subject to the Qualifying Criteria, these alternate rules are acceptable.
