3054: Clarification of rule GG3

23-Jan-2026

<GG3> Robots on the field must be ready to play. When a Team puts their Robot on the Field, it must be prepared to play (i.e., batteries charged, sized within the starting size constraint, etc.). a. Robots must be placed on the Field promptly. Repeated failure to do so could result in a Violation of <G1> and/or removal of the Robot from the current Match at the Head Referee’s discretion. b. If a Robot is not placed on the Field prior to the start of a Match, it cannot be placed on the Field during that Match.

A team brings their disabled robot to the field and places it on the field prior to the start of the match. Once the match begins, is the team allowed to rescue and remove their robot from the field; fix the problem with their robot; place the robot back on the field; and then, go ahead and actively participate in the match?

Provided the Team does not delay the start of the Match, they should be allowed to put their non-functional Robot on the Field for the Match. Once the Match begins, the Drive Team can signal the Head Referee as described in clause A of rule <GG10>, and handle the Robot under the guidelines of <GG10> with the Head Referee's permission.
