Official Q&A: VEX U Robotics Competition 2025-2026: Push Back
2942: Additional Electronics and VEX parts clarification
VUR2 "Teams may use any official VEX Robotics products, other than the exceptions listed in the tables below"
Additional Electronics "Any Sensor, processor, or other electronic component used in Robot construction, and connected to the V5 Robot Brain, that is not sold by VEX Robotics"
VUR12 b. Sensors, External Processors, and Additional Electronics CANNOT directly electrically interface with VEX motors and / or solenoid.
Using the above definitions and rules from the game manual, another VEX system brain, such as a VEX EXP brain and relevant battery, could be used on a VEXU robot. This additional brain would be connected to the V5 brain using standard smart cable and would not have the associated controller attached.
Would this additional brain be counted as a standard VEX component and not count as "additional electronics" therefore able to have VEX smart motors attached directly to it.
Also is would there be a limit to 1 of these additional brains? Or would one robot be able to have 3 additional brains, and be able to have many more smart motors and sensors attached.
RIT
It is not legal to use a second V5 Brain or EXP brain in order to interface with more motors.
Per <VUR10>, each robot must use exactly one V5 Robot Brain.
V5 and EXP Brains do not qualify as additional electronics because they are sold by VEX Robotics.
The intent of allowing for external processors and additional electronics is to enable more complex sensors, control algorithms, and expand teams' capabilities beyond just the VEX system. It is NOT intended to enable teams to use more motors than are able to be connected to a single V5 Brain.
