General Info

***UPDATE: 11am Thursday, March 12, 2020***

Dear VEX Teams

We have continued to review the ever-changing guidance from county health departments across the state, focusing on guidance from each respective county health department where a state championship event is being held. We have also continued to monitor, CDC and state-wide guidance from health officials. The REC Foundation will follow the guidance of public health officials for the safety of our students and the communities we serve.

As you may know, late last night, the California Department of Public Health issued new guidance to cancel events over 250 people and events where a distance of at least 6 feet between each participant is not possible; this guidance all but makes our remaining 11 CA state championship events impossible even if we close them to spectators:

https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/CDPH%20Document%20Library/Gathering_Guidance_03.11.20.pdf

Realizing the necessity of following the guidance of health officials, the REC Foundation has decided to cancel all remaining California State Championship events.

We know this decision will disappoint many, and ask that you realize the REC Foundation and impacted state Event Partners share the disappointment. We also know that this decision will have significant impact on many teams that have made great sacrifices this season to get to the state championships. We are working to resolve the outstanding issues caused by these cancellations and kindly ask that teams refrain from contacting the Event Partners at this time as they will have no further information to share other than what is contained in this message:

Refunds: Refunds will be provided to teams. All impacted teams will be contacted next week by their respective state Event Partners with information on the refund process and procedures. We would kindly ask for your patience with this process.

CA Worlds Spots: The Worlds 2020 spots allocated to the cancelled California events will be filled from California teams by platform and grade level from the World Skills list. We do not yet have a timeline on when this will happen, but anticipate it will be in the next two weeks.

VEX Worlds 2020: VEX Worlds 2020 is still on and will proceed as scheduled. The updates for Worlds can be found at: https://www.roboticseducation.org/vex-robotics-world-championship-2020-plan-your-visit/

We sincerely apologize to the impacted teams, but remain committed to putting health and safety first.

***UPDATE: Monday, March 9, 2020***

Out of an abundance of caution we have decided to limit the event to team members and one adult mentor per team.  The event is closed to the public, and we will not be having any spectators at the event.

We have been in communication with the County of Los Angeles Health officials and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.  They have not recommended any cancelation at this time, we have made the decision as a school hosting the event and doing what we can to reduce the number of people at the event.

We are doing everything possible that we can to ensure that the students get the opportunity to compete, and hope that everyone understands that the safety of everyone is our utmost priority.
