General Info

Welcome to the inaugural Native American VEX IQ Showcase Event, hosted by the White Mountain Apache Tribe of Whiteriver, Arizona!

(Please register for the Waiting List of this event.  You will get a message that 'Qualification is Required'.  That is OK.  When your eligibility is determined, the event host will add your team to the event from the Waiting List.  Thank you.)

This event is designed to allow Native American VEX IQ teams from the Southwest Region come together to enjoy a fun robotics competition and showcase their culture.  Teams are encouraged to prepare a PowerPoint (or similar) presentation on their local culture, that can be shown online.    The instructions for uploading your presentation for viewing will be communicated to the teams as we get closer to the event.

Teams must be either a Native American Reservation School Team,  Tribal School Team,  or Native American Team, to be eligible to compete.  Teams that register will be directed to the waiting list.  So please register for the Waiting List if you are interested in attending.  Teams will be added to the Team List by the Event Host once your eligibility is determined.  If you have any questions about this, please contact us.

Interviews for Judged Awards and Engineering Notebook submission take place April 23rd (notebook) and April 26th (interviews) BEFORE the competition begins.  Please see the Agenda tab for details

This event will also qualify teams to the Remote VEX Robotics World Championship 2021, as follows:

Excellence Award - Middle School - 1 spot

Excellence Award - Elementary School - 1 spot

     Design Award - 1 spot

Robot Skills Champion - Middle School - 1 spot

Robot Skills Champion - Elementary School - 1 spot

We plan to continue this tradition each year.  This season, the pandemic changed this event to be remote and skills-only.  In the future, we plan for this to be an in-person tournament event complete with full competition and awards.

Scheduled Remote Skills Time Slots:  We will using GoToMeeting to view teams' skills runs from their remote locations.   Registered teams will be given a link to select availble times for their robot inspection and for performing their 3 Driving Skills and 3 Programming Skills attempts.  Each team must have access to their own VEX IQ field and game set, and be familiar with the Rise Above Game Manual Remote Skills Challenge rules and Setup.  Important documents can be found here:
