General Info

Save the date - the 2023/24 New Zealand VIQC National Championship for Middle School will be held in the Palmerston North Convention Centre. 

Kiwibots are proud to bring this event for our tamariki, with the support of Central Robotics, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Foundation, Smales Farm, Universtiy of Auckland, Lion Foundation, and Palmerston North City Council and Events.

Check in and Inspection: 3pm - 5pm on Friday 8 December (except by prior arrangement)

Competion:  Saturday 9 December, and Sunday 10 December 2023, 9am - 5pm

Please REGISTER by Monday 20 November 2023.

Volunteer, Mentor, Teacher Awards:

This is your chance to say THANK YOU for all the hard work that teachers, volunteers and mentors put into making it possible for you to participate in your VEX program.
Please take the time to recognise teachers, volunteers and mentors for their efforts in this season.

Design / Engineering Books :

Please hand the clearly labelled design books in during check in & inspection. These must be PAPER COPIES!

Registration Fees

There is a registration fee of NZ$150 for this event. (Please contact Kiwibots if this is a problem.)
Kiwibots will invoice you directly for this, and it will be due by 20th November 2023. 
Early Bird registration of NZ$100 closes 5 PM 31st October 2023, for teams outside of the Manawatū Region.

This EVENT is for Middle School Teams only.

Student - Anyone born after May 1, 2008. Eligibility may also be granted based on a disability that has delayed education by at least one year.
Students are the individuals who design, build, repair, and program the Robot with minimal adult assistance. 
• Elementary School Student - Any Student born after May 1, 2011. Elementary School Students may “play up” and compete as a Middle School Student.
• Middle School Student - Any eligible Student that is not an Elementary School Student.

We will endeavour to send registered teams an email if event is cancelled due to unforseen weather events.

Refund and Payment Policies

Teams will get a full refund if the event has to be cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Team Check in is Friday 8th December: 3pm – 5pm OR Saturday 9th December 8:30am – 9:30am
  • Please double check your robot fits the LEGAL requirements
  • Saturday DOORS OPEN 8:30am and Opening Ceremony at 10am
  • Sunday DOORS OPEN  9:30am and Teamwork Matches resume 10am
  • Teams will get a full schedule at check-in.
  • Please ensure ALL team members have completed a consent form through robot events: (parental permission needed) found here: https://www.roboticseducation.org/documents/2018/03/participant-release-form.pdf/
  • Food cafes and the mall are all within 10 mins walking distance
  • Please, please, please LABEL everything! 
  • Please ensure ALL electrical devices are tagged and tested
  • Power will be provided in Team Pit areas

Judging Format

Please review the following Judging Format options and keep the ones that apply to your event, and delete the others that do not apply. Please see the Remote Judging section of the Guide to Judging for more information.

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
