General Info

VEX Robotics Scrimmage Event Information (V5 and IQ)

QSI International School of Shenzhen is thrilled to host both VEX V5 Robotics Competition (VRC) and VEX IQ scrimmages on November 15, 2025 for Student Centerd Teams (Language: English). These scrimmages offer teams a chance to test their robots, refine strategies, and gain valuable competition experience in a supportive environment. The event is open to both VEX V5 (middle/high school) and VEX IQ (elementary/middle school) teams participating in the current season’s games. Whether you're a veteran or a rookie team, these scrimmages are an excellent opportunity to prepare for official tournaments.

About VEX Robotics Scrimmages

VEX scrimmages are informal practice competitions designed to help teams prepare for official VEX Robotics Competitions (VRC for V5, VIQC for IQ). They emphasize practice, testing, and collaboration over earning qualification points. Key features include:

  • Qualifying Rounds: Teams compete in matches, typically in randomly assigned alliances (V5) or pairs (IQ), to test their robots and strategies. Matches follow the rules of the current season’s V5 and IQ games.
  • Robot Inspections: Robots must pass technical inspections to ensure compliance with V5 or IQ rules, including size, weight, and component regulations.
  • Alliance Selection and Elimination Rounds: Top teams in each division (V5 and IQ) form alliances (V5) or pairs (IQ) for elimination rounds, competing in a bracket-style format to determine scrimmage winners.
  • Team Collaboration: Scrimmages foster a cooperative environment where teams can share ideas, troubleshoot, and learn from each other.
  • Feedback and Iteration: Teams use match results to improve robot designs, programming, and strategies before official tournaments.

Event Details

  • Format: Two separate scrimmages (V5 and IQ) will run concurrently on separate fields, allowing teams to participate in their respective division. Each scrimmage includes qualifying rounds, alliance/pair selection, and elimination rounds.
  • Eligibility: Open to all VEX V5 (VRC) and VEX IQ (VIQC) teams registered for the current season. Teams must bring their V5 or IQ robots and equipment.
  • Registration: Pre-registration is required for each division.
  • Cost: Free to participate.
  • Facilities: The event will take place in the QSI gymnasium or designated competition areas, with separate fields for V5 and IQ. Teams will have access to practice fields (if available), pitting areas, and power outlets.
