General Info

Changelog: Due to number of registered teams, Judges Award will no longer offer a spot at the Nationals.

CIS welcomes you to our second VEX IQ event for all students, with judging and skills challenges. This event offers young learners the opportunity to cultivate logical thinking, teamwork, robot design and programming skills, as well as real-world problem-solving through hands-on experience.

Competition categories:
– Teamwork Challenge (Collaborative competition)
– Skills Challenge (Driving & Programming)
– Engineering Notebooks and Interview

***We would love to have as many volunteers as possible! Please contact us if you are willing to help make this a successful event for all of our wonderful students***

Sincerely,

David Arnold

Important Notes:

All RECF programs including the VEX Competition are student-centered, meaning that students are the proud owners of the build, code, strategy and their notebook. It is never our intent to punish any students.

From this season, student-centered rules will be strictly enforced during the event. Therefore, if a team's notebook and interview doesn't reflect their skill, they will be in violation of the rules and will not be allowed to participate in the finals. They will also be ineligible for any judged or performance-based awards.

Regarding VIQRC
It is difficult for elementary and middle-school teams to develop completely unique designs, especially when so many examples are publicly available online. It is natural for teams to take inspiration, and even original ideas may resemble existing designs simply due to the limited scope of the parts ecosystem.

My final stance is:
As long as a team properly cites their sources, acknowledges where ideas came from, and clearly documents their improvement process, they should be free from speculation and will not be subject to investigation after passing inspection.

Thank you
