Travel Info

Rumble in the Rockies will be held at the Utah State FairPark which is halfway between the Salt Lake International Airport and downtown Salt Lake City. The FairPark is a large, 65-acre complex. Entry is from the east side of the complex, at about 200 N 1000 W. All pits, competition fields, practice fields, and Skills fields will be in the Grand Building (located in the southeast corner of the park). We don’t expect to fill the Grand Building, so we will have one corner of the pit area set aside for parents and coaches. Coffee and a limited supply of donuts will be provided in the parents’ area.

As far as lodging goes, there are many places to stay near the airport or in the downtown area. We don’t care where you stay, though we do need to collect information on where you’re staying when you check in. This information helps one of our sponsors, Sports Salt Lake.

We have tried to negotiate more favorable rates from two of our local hotels. Each of these hotels provides a free airport shuttle service, free parking, and a complimentary breakfast starting each morning at 6:00am (including Saturday).

The Radisson Hotel, at 2177 W North Temple, is just 2 miles from the FairPark. It is conveniently located about halfway between the Salt Lake International Airport and downtown Salt Lake City. They offer free transportation to and from the airport with a shuttle. They are about 4 minutes from the airport, and 7 minutes from downtown. They are located less than 1 block from Utah Trax Station which gives ready access to the entire Salt Lake City area. There is a fridge and microwave in every room. They also offer a complimentary breakfast each morning beginning at 6:00 am. There is an onsite restaurant, Soni's Tuscan Bistro, and a full-service bar. For your convenience we have made arrangements to set up a practice field in the conference room at the Radisson. To access our discounted rate for the Radisson, go to:
http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/ArrivalInfo?hotel=UT300&srp=LSM15&pu=no

The Crystal Inn is in downtown Salt Lake City. It is within walking distance of restaurants and other downtown attractions. It is also just two blocks from the rapid transit system. There is no fare for riding rapid transit in the downtown loop area. You can also take the bus to the FairPark for a $2.50 fare ($5.00 roundtrip). So if you are flying in, you could stay at the Crystal Inn and not have to rent a car. The Crystal in has an indoor pool, exercise room, bus parking, and we have made arrangements to set up a practice field in one of their conference rooms as an area where students can work on their robots, and interact with other teams. The rooms in the Crystal Inn are larger than normal. Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The room with two queen sized beds also contains a couch that can be pulled out into a bed. If you plan to extend your stay in Salt Lake, or have not been to Salt Lake previously, we think you will enjoy staying in a downtown location. To access our group rate for the Crystal Inn, you can call (801) 328-4466 and let them know that you are with Rumble in the Rockies (Group code RINTRC). As an alternative, you can go to http://bookings.ihotelier.com/bookings.jsp?groupID=5012187&hotelID=77096 if you prefer to make your reservations that way.

Judging Format

The Initial Team Interviews will be conducted remotely, and Engineering Notebooks will be submitted to judges digitally via a link found within the "My Account" panel of the team contact on RobotEvents.

Digital engineering notebooks are due by 5:00 pm mountain time on January 9th.

Links to schedule remote interviews will be available shortly. To schedule your remote interview:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080F4AAFA628AAFD0-60865928-2026

Access Code: Rockies2026!

  • This signup will be for the date only from 5-7 PM Mountain time. Teams will receive their specific time slot within that window via email by January 16. If a team has extenuating circumstances and needs to request a specific time, they can email the Remote Judge Advisor ([email protected]) directly with their request. We will try to accommodate, but there are no guarantees.
  • Signups for remote interviews will close on January 9 at 11:59 PM. Because of the time and effort required to coordinate judging schedules, teams not signed up for an interview at that point will forfeit the opportunity to have an interview.
  • If there are teams who register for the event after January 9, they may request an interview by emailing the Remote Judge Advisor ([email protected]) directly.

Payment

Payment is due at the time of registration unless special arrangement has been made with the Event Partner. Teams who have registered but have not paid or submitted a PO within 2 weeks of registration will be moved to the wait list unless the event partner is contacted and arrangements are made.

Signature Event Early Bird Policy

All Signature Events will have a specific Early Bird Registration that is independent of all local/regional Early Bird systems.

  • Each team starts the season with three (3) opportunities to register during the Signature Event Early-Bird period.

    • A Signature Event Early-Bird opportunity is not taken away if a team registers for a tournament hosted by their school or organization (where the team’s coach is the Event Partner).

    • If a team registers during the Standard Registration period, a token is not taken away.

  • The official Signature Event Early Bird policy can be found on the REC Library.

  • To find out how many Signature Event Early Bird tokens your team(s) have remaining, select the "My Teams" option in RobotEvents.
