Welcome to “SoCal Showdown”! This event is a one-time, one-of-a-kind VEX Tournament brought to you by the SoCal Alliance Nonprofit Initiative in collaboration with McBride High School.
This event is open to both Middle School and High School VEX V5 robotics teams. Be prepared for an exciting and fast-paced tournament with 32 total teams battling it out. Robot and Driver Skills Challenges will also be offered at this event to test teams’ driving and coding skills.
All teams should:

Review the rules and complete the inspection checklist about a week before the competition to allow time for any necessary adjustments. The inspection checklist can be found here: Inspection Checklist

Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and any changes.

Read all information posted in the tournament listing on robotevents.com carefully.

Pack for the event the day before departure. Here are some essential items not to forget:

Goggles/Safety Glasses

Spare parts & tools

Batteries and chargers

Programming cable

Power strip

Laptop computer

Engineering notebook (required for Design and Excellence Awards)

Banners and decorations for your team’s pit

Review the award descriptions and criteria for those being given during the tournament.

Prepare for interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see which awards will be given.

Prioritize safety. Avoid bringing tools that pose safety risks, as the venue is a tight fit. No grinding or activities that create sparks indoors. (An outdoor area will be set up if you need to cut or grind metal)

Update your brain’s firmware to the latest version to expedite the robot inspection process.

Bring a physical Engineering Notebook, since digital notebooks will not be accepted.
LATE ARRIVALS:
Teams must check in at least 45 minutes before the start of qualification matches to allow time for printing the match schedule. Teams arriving late must contact the Event Partner; otherwise, they will be removed from the team list for the event.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy
In the event of extremely bad weather or emergency, we will not be able to reschedule the event. Teams should make sure their contact information in robotevents.com is up to date and includes both school and non-school phone numbers.
Refund and Payment Policies
If the Event Partner cancels the event: a full refund will be given.
If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend: no refund will be given.

Judging Format
This event has all-in-person judging, meaning that Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be conducted and evaluated in-person on the day of the event.
Please note that teams should bring a physical copy of their Engineering Notebook to submit to the judges. Online notebooks will not be accepted.
