General Info

Welcome to “SoCal Showdown”! This event is a one-time, one-of-a-kind VEX Tournament brought to you by the SoCal Alliance Nonprofit Initiative in collaboration with McBride High School.

This event is open to both Middle School and High School VEX V5 robotics teams. Be prepared for an exciting and fast-paced tournament with 32 total teams battling it out. Robot and Driver Skills Challenges will also be offered at this event to test teams’ driving and coding skills.

All teams should:

  1. Review the rules and complete the inspection checklist about a week before the competition to allow time for any necessary adjustments. The inspection checklist can be found here: Inspection Checklist

  2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and any changes.

  3. Read all information posted in the tournament listing on robotevents.com carefully.

  4. Pack for the event the day before departure. Here are some essential items not to forget:

    • Goggles/Safety Glasses

    • Spare parts & tools

    • Batteries and chargers

    • Programming cable

    • Power strip

    • Laptop computer

    • Engineering notebook (required for Design and Excellence Awards)

    • Banners and decorations for your team’s pit

    • Giveaways (if available)

  5. Review the award descriptions and criteria for those being given during the tournament.

  6. Prepare for interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see which awards will be given.

  7. Prioritize safety. Avoid bringing tools that pose safety risks, as the venue is a tight fit. No grinding or activities that create sparks indoors. (An outdoor area will be set up if you need to cut or grind metal)

  8. Update your brain’s firmware to the latest version to expedite the robot inspection process.

  9. Bring a physical Engineering Notebook, since digital notebooks will not be accepted.
