General Info

The West Michigan Robotics Event Partners are teaming up to present the sixth annual Mega League — a high-energy competition where up to 120 teams can register to compete. Over six weeks, 24 league sessions will be hosted across the region, with the top-ranked teams advancing to separate high school and middle school state-qualifying finals.

Mega League offers students a valuable opportunity to sharpen their skills before Saturday tournaments begin. Mistakes carry less weight, giving teams the freedom to experiment, learn, and adapt. Competitors can watch other teams to refine their robot designs, gain hands-on pit experience, understand the field control system, develop strategic gameplay, and build lasting relationships through collaboration.

Session selection will open on September 15 on a first come, first served basis.  Registered teams will be emailed the information to select their session dates and a schedule will be published online.

<MLR04> Some event dates are designated for only middle school or high school teams.
<MLR05> This specific event will not have awards. The top 24 qualified teams from each age group will be invited to the Mega Leage finals (more details below).
<MLR06> A limit of four teams per organiztion number (IE: 1234x) per session.

Skills
<MLS01> Skills will be offered starting at session 13. Teams will be allowed a maximum of three drivers skills and three programming skills per league night as time permits.
<MLS02> Teams will want to talk with the session Event Partner at the start to reserve time to run Skills after the match play.

Mega League Finals - Qualifications
<MLF01> There will be separate invitational finals event for both middle and high school teams.

The MS event championship finals will be held at Hudsonville High School on Mon, Nov 24 & and Tue, Nov 25.

Volunteering
League sessions are a great opportunity for volunteers (queue, referee, scorekeepers, technology) to learn and gain experience before the tournament season starts. Click on the Volunteer tab for more information.

Scrimmage
We’ll be hosting a scrimmage on Saturday morning, October 4 at Grandville Robotics. This event gives new teams, coaches, and referees a chance to practice robot inspection, field connections, and match play. It’s also a great opportunity to ask questions and learn best practices before the the league begins.

Volunteer

The significance of the Mega League is it allows teams to gain competition experience before the Saturday tournaments start. Making a mistake at a league session is much less costly to a teams' success. Students will learn to optimise their robot design, work in the pits, connect to the field control system, and collaborate with other teams. If their robot breaks down, its less of an impact on thier team performance.

This concept also applies to the event volunteers. Each event session is smaller with just 20 teams and they only last for 3 hours. Adults who are new to Vex Robotics tournaments will be paired with those that have more experience. It's also an activity where adults can be involved and get a front row view of the action.

If you want to learn how to set up, operate the scoring system, keep score, reset the field, run a skills field - this is your time to learn before the full Saturday tournaments start. You do not need to be a technical person to volunteer for the robotics events.

Contact the Event Partner at your session to offer to help.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In case of bad weather conditions or possible cancellations please visit this page on Robotevents.com or www.hudsonvillerobotics.com where updates will be posted about the event status as needed.

Refund and Payment Policies

All requests for refunds must be made 3 weeks prior to the event. Refunds, if approved, will be processed within 2 months following the event.

Event payments are expected when you register for the event and must be completed (showing PAID) a min of three weeks prior to the first session date. Unpaid teams will be removed from the event to allow teams on my wait list to register. Please contact [email protected] or any event partner if there are special considerations that need to be made.

Judging Format

Non-Judged
This league is designed to help teams gain competition experience and inspire iterative improvements to their robot design. We highly recommend they track their progress and document their plans in their engineering notebook. With that said, this event will not have judging during the league or the finals invitationals.

Note: Session EPs may offer opportunitities for mentors to review student notebooks and perform mock interviews to give students practice with judging.
