General Info
Welcome to the first annual Midcoast Maineiacs VEX V5 Turkey Bowl, at Searsport District Middle/High School on Saturday, November 22nd.
We will be collecting engineering notebooks digitally. Please upload them to Robot Events by Friday 11/21 at 5 PM to ensure enough time for judges to review them.
Competition Preparation
To ensure teams are prepared, here are several steps teams should take.
-
Review the Push Back Game Manual and Inspection Checklist.
-
Make sure that all students have filled out the Participant Release Digital Form.
-
Check RobotEvents Official Q&A for official rule interpretations and clarifications.
-
Carefully read the information below to help prepare your team for the tournament:
- Code of Conduct
- Student-Centered Policy
- Game Video
- Game Manual
- V5RC Hub and VEX Via
- Appendix A – Field Specifications
- Section 5 - Robot Skills Challenge
- Game Overview
-
Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget:
- Safety Glasses
- Joystick controller and programming cable
- Batteries and Charger
- Laptop and power supply
- Basic VEX toolkit
-
Remember that safety comes first, please don't bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team, or others nearby. All metal cutting will take place in our designated cutting area. Students wishing to use the cutting area must provide adult supervision from their own coach/mentor/chaperone.
-
Finally, be sure to prep for your judges' interview. Practice answering some of these questions as a team:
- BRIEFLY introduce yourselves. Please tell us your name & what your role is on your team.
- What does your robot do, and how does it score points?
- Tell us your process for developing game plans and skills strategies. Did any other teams inspire you? What is your match strategy(strategies)? What is your strategy for skills? Has your game strategy been effective? What about skills?
- Tell us your process for creating your robot's design. Did any other teams inspire you? What were the challenges of this year’s game that you considered before designing your robot? How did you design your robot to meet those challenges? What changes have you made to improve your design?
- Tell us your process for ensuring your robot is reliable and well built for competition.
- Tell us about the most creative design solution on your robot.
- Tell us about your process for programming and/or coding autonomously: including how you used any sensors. Do you use any sensors during driver control?
- Tell us your process for tracking changes you have made in your robot's programming this season.
- Tell us a few of the things your team is proud about this season - some of the things your team has accomplished.
- Tell us about a few of the challenges your team encountered this season, and how did you overcome them.
- Is there anything else you would like to share with us regarding your team, your robot design, or your game strategy?
