How to Qualify

To qualify for the UIL State Championship, your team must be affiliated with a UIL member High School.

Teams may ONLY participate in their correct division.  All teams are manually verified before the event and will be moved/removed as required.  Click here to check your school before registering.

Registration is on a first come first serve basis, so make sure to register ASAP!

Teams qualify by one of two ways:

1) Competing at legally qualifying events across the state of Texas and winning a UIL Championship qualifying spot.

2) Being pulled from the states skills rankings two weeks before the UIL Championship.

If a team double qualifies OR a middle school team wins a UIL Championship spot, the spot will then go to the next highest team in the skills ranking for the event.

Qualification spots for the UIL Championship are being assigned based on the capacity of the event.  The capacitys and spots are as follows:

16-29  - - - -  3 spots (Tournament Champions and Skills Champion)

30-40  - - - -  4 spots (Tournament Champion and Tournament Finalist)

40+     - - - -  5 spots (Tournament Champions, Tournament Finalist, Skills Champion)

Points Information

Lone Star Cup

Each school gets 1 point for attending (this is per school attending, not per team attending)

Tournament Champions - 6 pts

Tournament Finalists - 4 pts

Semi-Finalists - 2 pts

Academic Sweepstakes

Tournament Champions - 20 pts

Tournament Finalists - 16 pts

Semi-Finalists - 11 pts

If two teams from the same school win any combination of awards, the highest point award is the only one that is given to that school. Here are some examples to help explain"

  • Teams 123A and 123B are from Purple High School and win Tournament Champions.  Purple High School receives 7 points towards the Lone Star Cup (6 points for placement and one point for attending), and 20 points towards the Academic Sweepstakes award.
  • Teams 123A from Purple High School and 456A from Red High School win Tournament Finalists.  Both high schools receive 5 points towards the Lone Star Cup (4 points for placement and 1 point for attending), and 16 points towards the Academic Sweepstakes award.
  • Team 123A wins Tournament Champions, and 123B wins Tournament Finalists.  Purple High School receives 7 points towards the Lone Star Cup (6 points for placement and one point for attending), and 20 points towards the Academic Sweepstakes award.
