General Info

This event will be a Middle School Only Tournament for Kansas Teams only, and will serve as a LAST CHANCE to qualfiy for the KS State Tournament. See the following bulleted statements about registering teams and swapping. Let me know if you will be bringing payment with you on the 21st or submitting payment to the REC.  This tournament will be complete with trophies from the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation and be open to only KS MS teams. This Event will have 6 qualification rounds per team.  There will be an on-site concession stand for lunch.  Thank you so much for registering for the CMA Robotics LAST CHANCE tournament. 

The teams per organization limit will be set to 4.

Competition Preparation:

This event is sure to be a fast-paced and exciting event. All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared...

Covid-contingencies:

After consultation with the local school district and the Regional Coordinator, the Event Partner reserves the right to make changes to the above Health and Safety Policies in order to facilitate the safest event possible for the students, coaches, and volunteers. Any changes to these requirements will be shared with registered teams as soon as possible.

1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist before the competiton so that there is ample time for adjustments. 

2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and changes.

3. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Remember: Goggles/Safety glasses, spare parts and tools, batteries and chargers, power strip, extension cord, laptop computer, engineering notebook (if you have one, helpful for Judges, Design, and Exellence Awards - yes, we will have those, banners/decorations for your team pit, giveaways if you want. 

4. Safety comes first. Tools brought with you should not pose a safety risk with sparks, etc.

5. Understand how the game will be played. VEX participants are more than welcome to watch the referee training videos before they attend a tournament. The referee videos can be found using this https://www.roboticseducation.org website.

6. Be certain you have the latest updates for all your equipment.

7. Participation and consent form - a completed form for all participants must be turned in to participate. These may be completed on-line and uploaded to the REC website and will be there all season long; contact me via email if you need help doing this. This event is a Middle School Only Tournament, complete with trophies from the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation. This event is open to all registered Kansas MS teams. Agenda

7:30 AM Doors open for Team Check-in and inspections begin. Engineering notebooks will be collected at the Team Check-in table when you arrive. Judging of notebooks will conclude by 1:30. ALL teams should have their interviews completed in the commons area by 1:30 as well. 

8:30 AM Drivers meeting

9:00 AM Qualification rounds begin and Skills course opens. (Each Team will get 3 Skills runs of each.) Judging begins in the pits now as well and will conclude by 1:30.

12:15 - 1:00 PM Lunch Break

1:00 PM Qualification rounds continue

1:30 PM Skills course closes

2:30 PM Alliance selection

2:45 PM Elimination rounds begin.

3:45 PM Tournament Concludes and Awards Ceremony begins.

4:00 PM Conclusion of Tournament, but hopefully sooner than this.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

A decision will made the day before the meet whether or not to cancel the meet. Since this meet comes right before the State Tournament, there would be no time left to reschedule.

 

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event:

  • Refunds will not be issued unless the event is cancelled due to weather and cannot be rescheduled. 
  • If the event is cancelled, the $5.00 REC administration fee is non-refundable.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

  • No refund will be issued.
  • If the Coach/Mentor withdraws before making a payment then no payment will be required.

The payment deadline is Friday, February 13, 2026.

  • Teams registering after this date must pay at the time of registration.
  • Any team who has not paid by this date may be moved to the waitlist and their spot given to another team. 

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.

Judge "interview tables" will be set up outside of the gym. We'll utilize the new format where student teams will visit with Judges on their own time. Student teams should submit their notebooks upon initial inspection and bring their team and robot with them to their interviews.
