General Info

Welcome to Override @ Green Valley

Welcome to this season’s VEX V5 Robotics Competition Tournament at Green Valley featuring the exciting 2026–2027 game, Override!

We’re excited to welcome teams from across the region as they come together to showcase their creativity, engineering skills, programming, strategy, and teamwork. In Override, alliances will work to score Pins, strategically stack Pins and Cups, control Goals and Toggles, and position their robots in the Midfield as they battle for control of the field.

Will it be the Red or Blue Alliance stacking Cups and pinning their name on the leaderboard? Or will the Yellow Toggle change everything and Override the match?  With scoring opportunities spread across the entire field, teams will have to balance speed, precision, strategy, and teamwork throughout every match. Whether you're a veteran team or competing for the first time, we’re excited to see the different robot designs and strategies teams bring to Green Valley.

Good luck, and get ready to Override  the competition!

Venue

The Competition Fields, Skills Fields, Practice Fields, and team pits will all be located in the Lunchroom at Green Valley High School.

Parking

Please park on the west side of campus in the general student parking lot. Enter the school through the main entrance near the flagpole.

Concessions/Lunch

On-site concessions will be available throughout the day. Pizza will be sold during the lunch break. Contact the Event Partner if you would like to pre-order pizza for your team.

Skills Challenges

All teams will be offered exactly 3 Driving Skills attempts and 3 Autonomous Coding Skills attempts. Teams are responsible for completing their Skills attempts during the time provided. If your team misses the opportunity to complete an attempt, it cannot be made up after Skills closes. Robot Skills will close at the end of Qualification Matches. NO EXCEPTIONS. Plan accordingly and do not wait until the final Qualification Matches to begin your Skills runs.

General Information

Grade Level: Middle and High School
Robot Skills Challenge Offered: Yes
Judging Format: In-Person Team Interviews / Digital Engineering Notebooks

Team Event Preparation

  1. Review the current 2026–2027 Robot Inspection Checklist and Game Manual. Run through the inspection checklist approximately one week before the tournament so your team has time to correct any problems before arriving.
  2. Check the current VEX V5 Robotics Competition Override Game Manual before the event. The Game Manual is updated throughout the season, so do not rely on a version downloaded earlier in the year.
  3. Review the Official V5RC Q&A. Official Q&A responses are binding rules interpretations and should be treated as an extension of the Game Manual.
  4. Carefully read all information on this tournament's events.vex.com page, including the agenda, judging information, Skills information, awards, and any updates from the Event Partner.
  5. Review information about attending a VEX V5 Robotics Competition tournament, especially if this is your team's first event.
  6. Review the awards being offered at this tournament and the criteria for each award.
  7. Prepare for your team interview with the judges. Students should be prepared to explain their design process, programming, strategy, testing, failures, improvements, and individual contributions to the robot.
  8. Make sure your Digital Engineering Notebook is complete and submitted correctly if your team wants to be considered for awards requiring an Engineering Notebook.
  9. Safety comes first. Please do not bring tools that create an unnecessary safety risk to your team or those around you. Pit space is limited. Grinding, cutting, or any other activity that creates sparks is not permitted inside the venue.
  10. Know how Override is played. Students should understand the rules before arriving at the tournament. Teams are encouraged to review the current referee training materials because understanding how referees interpret and apply the rules can help teams avoid unnecessary violations.
  11. Review robot troubleshooting procedures before the event. Teams should know how to diagnose common connection, controller, battery, firmware, and programming problems.
  12. Check your robot's firmware before arriving. The Override Game Manual currently requires VEXos 1.1.5 or newer, but teams should verify the current firmware requirement before every competition.
  13. Test your competition connection. Make sure your robot uses a Competition Template and properly responds to field control for both Autonomous and Driver Controlled periods.
  14. Pack for the tournament the day before you leave. A few things you don't want to forget:
    • Safety glasses
    • Robot
    • Spare parts
    • Tools
    • Fully charged robot batteries
    • Controller
    • Controller charging cable
    • Battery chargers
    • Programming cable
    • Power strip
    • Programming computer and charger
    • Engineering Notebook

    • Banners or decorations for your pit
    • Team shirts
    • Giveaways, buttons, or stickers if your team has them

Most importantly: charge everything, update everything, test everything, and don't wait until tournament morning to discover a problem.
