General Info
Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting the event page for VEX V5 Japan Cup 2027, scheduled for March 13-14, 2027.
Please note that this event does not qualify teams for any other events or championships.
Japan Cup is an international invitational event created to bring teams from Japan and around the world together through VEX Robotics. Our goal is to provide students with an opportunity to compete, connect, exchange ideas, and build friendships with teams from different countries.
Japan Cup is held after the qualification period for the VEX Robotics World Championship has concluded in regions around the world. Therefore, this event is not part of the qualification pathway to the VEX Robotics World Championship or any other event.
Instead, Japan Cup is designed as an international competition where students can challenge teams from around the world, share engineering ideas and competition strategies, experience different cultures, and build connections beyond their own countries.
Since the first Japan Cup in 2019, the event has continued to grow as a place where teams from Japan and overseas come together through VEX Robotics. In 2026, Japan Cup welcomed 60 teams from 10 countries, supported by approximately 100 volunteers and attended by approximately 700 visitors.
Japan Cup welcomes teams of all experience levels. Whether this is your first international competition or you have competed around the world, we hope Japan Cup will provide an exciting opportunity to compete, learn, connect, and make new friends.
Additional event information will be updated on this page as details are finalized. Please check this event page regularly for the latest information.
1. Pre-Event Day - Saturday, March 13
Saturday, March 13 will be the Pre-Event Day for VEX V5 Japan Cup 2027.
As part of our international exchange program, participating teams will have the opportunity to join a Taiko Drumming Experience and interact with teams from Japan and around the world.
Robot Inspection will also begin in the afternoon on Saturday, March 13. We strongly encourage teams to complete Robot Inspection on the Pre-Event Day whenever possible to help ensure a smooth start to the competition on Sunday.
Detailed times and additional information regarding the Pre-Event Day will be updated on this event page.
2. Student-Centered Policy
VEX Robotics places a strong emphasis on the Student-Centered philosophy.
Robot design, construction, programming, Engineering Notebook documentation, and competition strategy must be led by students. Coaches, parents, and mentors are encouraged to support the learning process while allowing students to make decisions and solve problems independently.
Violations of the Student-Centered Policy may affect judging results, award eligibility, or other aspects of participation.
For more information, please review the official information.
3. Consent Form
All participants, including students, coaches, parents, and volunteers, must submit a Consent Form prior to the event.
The Consent Form covers important topics including safety, liability, media release, and participation eligibility.
Participants under the age of 18 must have parental or legal guardian approval.
Teams with incomplete or missing Consent Forms will not be permitted to participate.
4. Volunteers
Each team is required to provide at least one volunteer.
Volunteers may include coaches, parents, family members, friends, alumni, or other supporters.
Please open the Volunteer tab on this event page for volunteer registration and additional information.
5. Engineering Notebook
The Engineering Notebook is an important part of the judging process.
Digital Engineering Notebooks must be submitted by Friday, March 5, 2027, at 6:00 PM (Japan Standard Time).
After the submission deadline, the Event Partner will download all submitted Engineering Notebooks and distribute them to the judges for evaluation. Engineering Notebooks uploaded after the deadline will not be considered for judging.
6. Registration Fee
Please refer to the Payment Link section on this event page for registration fees, payment instructions, and deadlines.
7. Meals
Information regarding meals will be announced closer to the event. A dedicated Meals tab will be added to this event page once the details are finalized.
8. Official Rules
All teams are responsible for reviewing the latest Game Manual and official Q&A before attending the event.
Japan Cup will be conducted in accordance with the official VEX competition rules and international competition standards. All teams are expected to understand and follow the applicable rules, Student-Centered Policy, and Code of Conduct.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
We look forward to welcoming teams from Japan and around the world to Japan Cup 2027.

Student-Centered Zone
At YSE-hosted competitions, we designate a ""Student-Centered Zone."" Within this zone, coaches, mentors, parents, and other adults are asked not to remain in the pit area for more than five minutes.
This zone is not required by the official competition rules. Rather, it is a YSE event policy established in support of the Student-Centered philosophy that underpins the VEX Robotics Competition. To learn more about the Student-Centered philosophy, please click here.
We ask all adults to support students in accordance with the Student-Centered philosophy by respecting their independence and ownership of the learning process. In particular, adults must not interfere with student learning by making robot adjustments, modifying programs, or otherwise taking over tasks that should be completed by students. If inappropriate adult involvement is observed, event staff may report the incident to the Judge Advisor (or to the Head Referee or Event Partner at events without judging), which may affect the team's evaluation. Furthermore, if a team fails to correct its behavior after being warned by event staff, the team may be disqualified (DQ) and may lose its eligibility to continue competing, even after the event has begun.
YSE introduced the Student-Centered Zone because we have found that the Student-Centered philosophy is not always fully understood. When adults remain in the pit area for extended periods, opportunities for students to collaborate, communicate, and solve problems independently can be diminished. By establishing the Student-Centered Zone, we hope to encourage a deeper understanding of this philosophy while fostering a learning environment where students can take ownership of their own growth and development.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
