About the Team
The Pink Potatoes is a dedicated team of students from years 8, 9 and 10, with some who are new to VEX and others in their second season and having experienced the thrill of getting through to the Quarter Finals in the Push Back UK National Championships last year. Their striking pink t-shirts with Pink Potatoes logos were very kindly donated by J.G. Uniforms, which is run by a parent of one of our students who also designed the logos. The team is currently raising funds and they would be very grateful for any donations at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/framvexrobotics - thank you! Framwellgate School Durham is a co-educational, non-selective secondary school and sixth form for students aged 11–18, located in the Framwellgate Moor area of Durham. As an academy under the Excel Academy Partnership, it emphasizes values of excellence, compassion, and respect.
About this Season
Team Pink Potato started preparing for the Overdrive season, planning strategies and thinking about their robot design, as soon as the game was announced. A number of new team members joined whilst still in Year 7, after taking part in the First Lego League competition and getting the bug for robotics competition.
About Team Sponsor
Framwellgate School Durham started our VEX robotics journey through the generosity of the Reece Foundation, who provided our first VEX V5 competition starter kit. The Reece Foundation was launched in 2007 by renowned North East engineer and businessman Dr Alan Reece to promote manufacturing and support education relating to engineering, maths and physics. A passionate believer in engineering as a provider of prosperity and enjoyable employment, Alan Reece felt it important to encourage students to become enthused and excited by engineering and ultimately inspired to become our engineers of the future. Lord Crewe’s Charity is a Christian Charity supporting Clergy, Education and the Local Community. Their guiding values are Christian Stewardship and Responsible Benevolence. With careful stewardship of Lord Crewe’s original endowment, the Charity uses its income to support clergy in the dioceses of Durham and Newcastle, to support education, particularly at Lincoln College, Oxford and to support the local community in the parishes where the Charity owns land and more widely through the two dioceses. Lord Crewe's Charity awarded a generous multi-year grant in 2025 to fund Framwellgate School Durham's robotics teams, enabling the school to purchase a portable VEX robotics arena, game elements and equipment that will help ensure that our teams can compete on equal terms with the best teams in the country for many years to come.
