About this Season
We started the season with only an intake made of gears and rubber bands and a linear punch on our robot. Due to aforementioned issues, both Finn and Ethan were unable to go to our first competition at Battle of the Bridge, which made it a lot harder for us. Despite this, we did fairly well, going 4-1-1. We made the playoffs but lost in the round of 16. After that competition, we attempted to make a flywheel, but it didn't work the best, so we decided to not use it. During this time, both Jace and Julio joined our team, and they both did exceptionally well. Our next competition was at Lake Ridge Middle School. We did really well at this competition, going 6-0 and making the playoffs as the 2 seed. We won in the round of 16, but sadly lost in the quarterfinals by one point. After this competition, we made a huge difference to our robot, adding a flywheel using a flex wheel and a blue motor. It worked pretty well, and on Friday, February 9, we went to a skills competition at Parkside Middle School. We did decently at that competition, getting 79 points in driver skills, and 69 points in autonomous skills. The next day, February 10, we had a qualifying competition at the Manassas Mall. This competition was a blended tournament, and pretty much everything that could've gone wrong did. Our autonomous failed, the flywheel broke twice, and on multiple separate occasions our opponent's robot just stopped. As a result of this, we went 0-6, and couldn't improve our skills at all. We didn't have any competitions lined up, so we were devastated. Then, on the following Tuesday, we learned we were going to another skills competition at Woodbridge High School. We didn't do amazingly, but we got a combined total of 179 points, which was just barely enough to get to states. as most of our team is eighth graders, we are all overjoyed to be here, especially considering the struggles of the season. Our school is closing after this year, so we want to compete the absolute best we can, qualify for worlds, and make our teammates and school proud.
