About this Season
The 2024-2025 VEX Robotics Competition season is underway, and the excitement is focused on **"Rapid Relay"**, this year’s challenge for the VEX IQ Robotics Competition. Played on a 6’ x 8’ field, teams of two robots work together in 60-second teamwork matches to pass padded Balls, score through Targets, and clear Switches. Points are awarded for goals scored, switches cleared, and successful passes, encouraging strategic collaboration and innovative design. At Ward Elementary, Mrs. K’s after-school VEX Robotics program features 15 enthusiastic 4th and 5th graders who are ready to shine. They’ve formed four dynamic teams with creative names: **Duh Girls**, **King Bob's Cobras**, **Tyrannosaurus VEX**, and **Pizza Bots**. Each team has poured their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork into designing and programming their robots. As they head into the competition, these young engineers are set to show off their hard work and passion for robotics, embodying the legacy of innovation and discovery that runs deep at Ward Elementary. With determination and excitement, they are ready to take on **"Rapid Relay"** and make their mark on the season.
About Team Sponsor
Nestled in the historic neighborhoods surrounding NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, Ward Elementary stands as a beacon of innovation and curiosity. Located in the very community where Neil Armstrong lived and sent his children to school while training to walk on the moon, Ward Elementary embodies a deep legacy of exploration and achievement. Robotics at Ward Elementary is more than an activity—it's a tradition rooted in the passion for science and engineering that has shaped the area for decades. With parents who have worked on NASA’s most iconic missions, including sending rovers to Mars, Ward’s students are surrounded by stories and role models that inspire a lifelong love for mechanics and discovery. Ward Elementary is part of Clear Creek ISD’s Robotics, Coding, and Computational Thinking (RCC) immersion program, offering every Pre-K through 5th-grade student the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies. From building VEX robots to mastering coding skills through platforms like Scratch and Minecraft EDU, students seamlessly integrate STEM into their curriculum, preparing for a future driven by innovation. Robotics here isn’t just about competition; it’s about fostering creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. At Ward Elementary, the focus is on carrying the torch of curiosity, engineering, and exploration into the future—fueling a passion for all things mechanical in the next generation of thinkers and doers.
