2669: Scoring Validity of a Beam on the Floor, an Upside-Down Stack, and a Beam Resting on the Field Wall

Q: According to rule <SE5> in the 2025-2026 VIQC Game Manual, a Stack is only considered Scored if it is in a vertical orientation.

  1. In Figure 1, the Beam is placed on the Floor, and a Stack is inserted into the Beam at a slight tilt. The Stack is not touching the Floor or another Stack. In this scenario, is the Beam considered to be connected to a Scored Stack?
  2. In Figure 2, a Stack is placed upside down directly on the Floor (not inserted into a Beam). Is it considered Scored?
  3. In Figure 3, one end of a Beam is inserted into a Pin, while the other end rests on the Field Wall (not touching the Floor). Is this Beam considered Scored? [Example Image] [Example Image] [Example Image]

Note: Our answer to Scenario 3 was revised on October 16, 2025, to reflect the revised guidance in Q&A 2830.

For Scenario 3, because the Stack is supported by the Field Perimeter it does not qualify as roughly vertical and the Pin and Beam do not count as Connected.

We believe our response to Q&A 2664 addresses your first two scenarios (tl:dr, the 'point-down' Pins count as Connected and a Stack, but the Pins coming up from a Beam on the Floor don't); if it does not, please feel free to rephrase and re-submit.
