General Info
Welcome to the 1st Annual V5RC Tournament at the University of Wisconsin–Stout: DevilBots Brawl!
Registration Information
All participating teams must be registered with VEX V5 Robotics Competition on the RobotEvents website and have an official team number before registering for this event. Tournament fees must be paid before teams are allowed to compete. Registration and payments should be made through the RobotEvents website.
Engineering notebooks
We will be collecting physical engineering notebooks at this event for judging.
Lunch and Concessions
Full concessions will be available starting at 10 am at the Blue Devil Market in the Memorial Student Center
Elimination Matches
Number of elimination alliances (16-23 teams = 8 alliances in finals, 24-31 teams =12 alliances in finals, 32+ teams = 16 alliances in finals)
Competition Preparation
All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared.

Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. Robots must use VEX V5 parts. Please self inspect before arriving at the tournament using the V5 Robot Inspection Checklist.

Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on RobotEvents.

Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.

Be sure to read VEX Tournaments 101.

Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards that are being given during the tournament.

Prep for your interviews with the judges and read the Judge's Guide. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.

Remember that safety comes first, please don't bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team, or others nearby, as teams are close to each other in the venue pit area. Also, remember no grinding or other actions that create sparks, ask the tournament director for a safe location if grinding is needed.

Ensure that you have the latest version of programming software and firmware for your V5 Brain.
Participation and Consent Form
A completed form for all participants must be uploaded to RobotEvents prior to the tournament. Team leaders will need to check that all team members attending the event have completed the online consent form prior to the tournament. Parking
The main event is on the 2nd floor of the Memorial Student Center. The street directly in front of the Memorial Student Center (3rd St E) is a loading zone for teams to drop off items and students. Free parking is just down the street at Lot 29 (or Lot 18 or Lot 24).

NOTES:
- Alliances will be 2 teams.
- All teams up to 32 will participate in the finals. (Note: Teams that decline invitations may inadvertently remove themselves from finals)
- If there are an odd number of teams, the last-ranked team should still attend Alliance Selection in case a team withdraws due to a problem with their robot.
- All finals matches will be one-and-done (no best-of-three matches).
- Ties in finals matches will be replayed until a winner is determined.

DevilBots Brawl is looking for volunteers for helping the event run as smoothly as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below are the different roles for volunteers. Depending on how many people sign up we may need to move people around and fill other roles.
2025-2026 Wisconsin V5RC & IQ Judging
Field Reset
Description: Accurately reset the competition field after each match and assist the Field Manager or Head Referee as needed. Note: students with high energy and younger children do well.
Activity Level: High (physical), constant standing or walking.
Experience Level: Beginner. No experience is needed.
Skills:
- Ability to review field diagrams to place game objects in correct locations on the competition field
- Move quickly around the field
- Good listening skills
Inspector
Description: Conduct inspections to verify that robots comply with the rules and specifications outlined in the game manuals.
Activity Level: Moderate (mix of sitting and walking).
Experience Level: Intermediate. Basic knowledge of robot construction and familiarity with V5RC & VIQRC parts is helpful, but not mandatory.

Pit Admin Assistant
Description: Serve in a customer service role by assisting teams and guests with competition- and venue-related questions.
Activity Level: Low (mostly sitting).
Experience Level: Beginner. No experience required.

- Ability to troubleshoot issues
- Communicate effectively
Practice Field Official
Description: Oversee practice fields and ensure that all teams have access to practice time and proceed in an orderly fashion.
Activity Level: Moderate (mix of sitting and walking).
Experience Level: Beginner. No experience required.
Skills:
- Monitor students and keep order
- Communicate effectively
Queuing
Description: Assist with staging teams for upcoming matches.
Activity Level: High (physical), constant standing or walking.
Experience Level: Beginner. No experience required.
Skills:
- Communicate effectively
- Attention to detail
- Stay organized in fast-paced environment
- Follow instructions
Scorekeeper Referee / Skills Field Official
Description: Record scores using the TM Mobile app or paper score sheets. Verify recorded scores with other Scorekeeping Referees and/or the Head Referee as needed, and with the student drivers after each match. Discuss possible rule violations with the Head Referee after the match. Ensure the field is reset and robots are ready for the next match.
Activity Level: High (physical), constant standing or walking.
Experience Level: Intermediate. Experienced volunteers are preferred; however, Scorekeeper Referees can be new volunteers and can be trained quickly. Must be at least 15 years old for all events.

- Apply knowledge of the game and rules and be impartial
- Attention to detail
- Work effectively as a member of a team
- Interact positively with students
Team Check-in
Description: Welcome teams as they arrive. Verify teams, hand out materials, and collect Engineering Notebooks. Answer basic questions about the facility and event.
Activity Level: Moderate (mix of sitting and walking).
Experience Level: Beginner. No experience required.
Skills:
- Attention to detail
- Communicate effectively
- Comfortable using a computer
Volunteer Check-in
Description: Welcome volunteers and guests. Verify schedule, hand out materials, direct volunteers to appropriate locations. Answer basic questions about the facility and event. Can be a fast-paced role.
Activity Level: Moderate (mix of sitting and walking).
Experience Level: Beginner. No experience required.
Skills:
- Attention to detail
- Communicate effectively
- Comfortable using a computer
Emergency/Bad Weather Policy
In case of inclement teams will be advised as needed by the event planner.
Refund and Payment Policies
If the Event Partner cancels the event:
Teams will be fully refunded minus a $5 processing fee.
If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:
Teams can receive a $75 refund if the Event Partner is notified before January 17th, 2025. No refunds will be given after this time.

Judging Format
All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
